Surgical gloves were designed by him to retain his beloved head nurse in the operating room

In 1889, William Halsted of Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States designed and created surgical gloves.

Early surgical procedures were not designed to prevent infection, but rather by surgeons (later Hopkins Dean William Halsted) for his beloved operating room nurse Caroline Hampton.

Due to her allergy to the surgical disinfectant mercuric chloride used beforehand, Caroline Hampton decided to resign and reluctantly hired the incompetent head nurse, William Halsted. She personally approached the rubber giant Goodyear and designed a close fitting internal medicine glove from hand to trick. This creation not only saved the head nurse, but also won her heart.

Since then, surgical gloves have gradually become the standard configuration in operating rooms. Surgical hat (headscarf), hand washing clothes, and internal medicine gloves are the three piece set for each physician's task. For the convenience of wearing rubber gloves, glove consumers will apply various powders.

Every medical intern starts their career in the operating room with a pair of surgical gloves. We in the operating room now open the glove packaging with great fear and clumsily wear surgical gloves. When our hands are sweating nervously and we can't reach inside the gloves, we must be wondering how we can apply so little powder to these gloves. This memory will be unforgettable for every surgeon, and now, this glove will also become history.

Over the past 100 years, although other technologies in the field of internal medicine have been advancing rapidly, surgical gloves still adhere to their fundamental appearance without major changes.

But all of this will change with the red card issued by the FDA this time. On March 21, 2016, the US FDA revealed a big old story.

The FDA has issued a document to prohibit the majority of powdered medical gloves, including all surgical gloves and surgical reflective gloves.
