How to use medical gloves

Medical gloves are used in all medical settings such as operating tables, laboratories, and dentistry, and their range of use is also very wide. Medical gloves should be used with great caution, as accidentally infecting the wound can be very detrimental. How should I wear it? Let's take a look together below!

1. The method of wearing dry gloves involves dipping a small amount of talcum powder (or medical starch) into both hands to facilitate glove wearing. Hold the inner surface of the folded part of the glove with your right hand, take out a pair of dry gloves, and insert your left hand into the left glove first. After wearing the glove, insert your left hand into the outer circle of the folded part of your right hand, and then insert your right hand into the glove (wearing the right glove first is also acceptable); Pull the folded part of the glove over the cuff without exposing the wrist; Before wearing gloves, hands should not touch the outside of the gloves. After wearing gloves, do not touch the skin. Afterwards, rinse the talcum powder off the gloves with sterile saline before operation.

2. After hand disinfection using the wet glove method, take a pair of wet gloves from the basin containing the gloves while they are still wet. Pour water into the gloves and insert your left hand into them. Raise your left hand slightly to allow the accumulated water to flow out along the wrist and wear it properly. Then insert your left hand into the outer ring of the folding part and wear the right glove. Lift your right hand to allow the accumulated water to flow out along the wrist (wearing the right glove first is also acceptable). Put on the surgical gown and place the folded part of the gloves on the cuff, without exposing the wrist. This method is generally not suitable for hospitals with conditions.

3. Wearing double layered gloves can reduce the wearer's exposure to danger. If double layered gloves are required for specific operations such as chemotherapy or bone marrow puncture, loose gloves are needed so that one can be placed on top of the other.

4. After coming into contact with suspected contaminated areas or objects of the same patient, gloves should be changed before coming into contact with the mucous membrane. Before coming into contact with non pollutants or disposing of other patients, gloves should be removed and hands should be washed or disinfected immediately to avoid spreading microorganisms to other patients or objects.

5. The longer gloves are worn, the more likely the protective barrier is to be damaged. Using gloves under harsh conditions or coming into contact with multiple chemicals can cause fatigue, so gloves should be replaced appropriately during operation. If gloves are damaged or suspected of contamination during the surgery, they should be replaced immediately.

6. During the use of gloves, the source of infection can contaminate the outer surface of the gloves. It is important to remove the gloves correctly. When removing the gloves, do not forcefully pull them. Instead, flip the gloves over and gently remove them. Try not to touch the outside of the gloves with your hands. The removed gloves should be disinfected in a timely manner and should not be thrown into a waste bin. Incorrect removal of gloves may lead to the spread of pollutants outside the gloves, rendering even the best barrier function meaningless.
